LAWA Partners with PowerFlex to Deliver Smart Electric Vehicle Chargers at New LAX Economy Parking Facility

The innovative facility will provide more than 500 EV charging stations to meet the growing demand of EV drivers in California.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Nov. 30, 2021) — PowerFlex, an EDF Renewables Company, is partnering with Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) to install 500 Level 2 and eight DC-fast (Level 3) chargers at its new parking facility at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). This project, called “LAX Economy Parking,” is a part of LAX’s larger initiative, the Landside Access Modernization Program (LAMP), which is focused on mitigating congestion at the third busiest airport in the world for local travelers and international visitors. This initiative is especially timely as the City of Los Angeles prepares for the 2028 Olympics.

LAX Economy Parking includes approximately 4,300 new parking spaces within its four-story, 1.7-million-square-foot structure. It offers the latest in smart parking technology to enable an efficient and user-friendly parking experience, including pre-booked parking, intuitive wayfinding, and electric vehicle chargers.

The Smart EV chargers utilize PowerFlex’s patented ALM technology, software that dynamically balances the total system load and driver needs to control the delivery of energy to individual chargers in real-time. By utilizing ALM, the project will deliver EV miles to more than double the number of drivers than typical installations without requiring costly upgrades to the existing utility service.
