SAN DIEGO (Dec. 4, 2024) — PowerFlex, a leader in clean technology (cleantech) solutions, has announced the inaugural release of its State of the Industry Report, an annual publication geared toward commercial and industrial decision-makers that contains original research, insights, and analysis on sustainability and renewable energy topics.
The Year in Cleantech: Clean Energy Motivators, Priorities, and Roadblocks in Today’s Corporate Culture explores what’s driving — and hindering — clean energy adoption and the pursuit of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals at the organizational level.
“Corporate sustainability isn’t a quick fix; it’s a long-term strategy that must be nurtured with the proper data and resources,” said Raphael Declercq, CEO of PowerFlex. “Our Cleantech State of the Industry Report is essential reading for those who are planning to leverage clean energy in 2025 and beyond.”
To inform the report, PowerFlex surveyed 400 decision-makers across four job categories: property development, sustainability, fleet management, and operations/facilities.
Among the key findings, 33% of respondents reported they already benefit from onsite solar energy and electric vehicle chargers, and 50% said they are planning to launch a renewables project in the next 12 months. Return on investment, brand image, regulatory compliance, and appeasing customers and employees were all cited as motivations for prioritizing clean energy.
The report, however, uncovers several significant barriers to sustainability progress among corporations. For example, more than one-third of survey participants said sustainability is not part of their corporate culture, largely due to a lack of internal education about the full benefits of clean energy projects and how to implement them. There is also confusion and misalignment around sustainability budgets.
Best practices for overcoming these barriers are offered, including increasing internal sustainability education and advocacy efforts and leveraging the success of small-scale clean energy pilot programs to win support for more resources among stakeholders.
